Dear Tim --

Let me start by saying that I have no idea whatsoever
how to achieve anything under Ubuntu, Red Hat, Yellow
Penguin, Debian, Snow Leopard, or any other flavour
of Unix or Linux : I work solely under Windows/XP.

That said, I have looked at your message and at
your files.

I have rejected using

because it seems unnecessarily opaque, and have instead elected
to process

Then, I have investigated "Cherokee.ttf"; from what I can
see, the author does not recommend it for serious work,
and suggests intending Cherokee typesetters use the
authoritative Cherokee font instead. To that end, I have
downloaded and installed Digohweli.ttf from

Finally I have written a six-line TeX file using the TeXworks editor :

	\font \Cherokee = "Digohweli"
	\parindent = 0 em
	\input 01.txt

I set the default processing engine to XeTeX and press the "Compile"
button, and the attached PDF results.

such similar poseurs' toy, none of which would I be seen dead
with even if they came free with every packet of cornflakes.
