[tex-live] XeTeX or xdvipdfmx Broken on Mac

Hello list,

The following is largely superfluous given Dick's latest messages, but here it is anyway.

These are two files testing all the fonts in OS X, written originally in 2013 for OS X 10.8, at the time Khaled was partially rewriting XeTeX and we were testing it against all OS X fonts on the MacTeX list (and comparing with LuaTeX output for good measure).

I adapted the files last year to OS X 10.9, and just adapted it today to 10.10. The result runs fine with XeTeX and LuaTeX in TeX Live 2014. It doesn't with XeTeX in TeX Live 2015 (even a simple call of "Times Roman" in plain TeX yields "sfnt: table not found").

The problematic fonts with TeX Live 2014 are

Blank output

Apple Color Emoji	(also with LuaTeX)
GB18030 Bitmap (also with LuaTeX)
Hannotate TC (also with LuaTeX)
HanziPen TC (also with LuaTeX)

-> kpathsea:make_tex: Invalid fontname `Apple Color Emoji', contains ' '

Hannotate SC (blank output no crash in LuaTeX)
HanziPen SC (blank output no crash in LuaTeX)
ITF Devanagari (also with LuaTeX)
Kohinoor Devanagari	(also with LuaTeX)

-> xdvipdfmx:fatal: sfnt: table not found...

Yuppy SC (also with LuaTeX)
Yuppy TC (also with LuaTeX)

-> xdvipdfmx:fatal: CFF: Parsing CFF DICT failed. (error=-1)

So this is fully consistent with Dick's latest message.

For comparison purposes, the PDF output on my setup is at (17 MB)

Hope this helps,

Bruno Voisin
